To its credit, Airalo offers a wide range of plans from 3 to 30 days and has a user-friendly app for easy top-ups and monitoring. Set up is simple enough via a QR code link, and the app supports 53 languages for all you polygots.

Another large, well-established Singaporean brand is Jetpac Global. The company offers a handful of unique benefits, such as paid voice calls (limited destinations) and free access to WhatsApp, Uber, and Google Maps once your data runs out. Jetpac also advertises free airport lounge access for delayed flights. However, you have to register flight details in advance, and not all lounges are included – I doubt many travellers claim this perk. 

Jetpac Global practices price anchoring, jacking up rates, then slashing them with near-constant sales to generate perceived value. For example, its 30-day unlimited plan at “56% off” is no cheaper than ZenSim. Also, despite claiming to list its partner networks, they’re hidden on an obscure support page (CSL & PCCW mobile in Hong Kong). The brand has a Trustpilot score of 4.7/5.

Saily, from the makers of Nord VPN, might be worth a look for security-conscious roamers. Its eSIM comes bundled with an ad-blocker, a virtual location tool, and browsing protection. You can also add a discounted NordVPN subscription if desired. But for the typical tourist, the supplementary security is overkill and just adds to the price. The Great Firewall of China doesn’t apply in Hong Kong, anyway. 

Not a deal breaker, but Saily has a low 30-day activation limit, so don’t go purchasing your plan months in advance. More pressingly, the brand doesn’t disclose its partner networks, which is a red flag in my eyes. This Chicago-based company has a Trustpilot score of 4.7/5, with many complaints mentioning patchy connections.

SIMIFY

A fellow Australian company, Simify is known for its wide range of data packages, including long-term 45-day and 90-day plans of up to 100GB. To be honest, though, if you’re in Honkers for three months, it’s probably worth getting a local SIM. While Simify has a decent app and customer support, it does tend to cost more than many competitors. 

Unlimited plan customers should know that Simify hides its daily use cap under a “fair use” policy. That means you won’t know how much data you get per day before throttling, as it’s set by the local partner network. Note that the first two prices below are for a four-country eSIM, as Simify doesn’t offer data-capped plans for Hong Kong only. Simify has a 4.8 Trustpilot rating.

The sneaky tactic has ruffled a few feathers, perhaps contributing to its imperfect 4.6/5 rating on Trustpilot.

Although technically true, many recommendations come from affiliates (bloggers, YouTubers, etc.) who earn a chunky commission for each sign-up – hardly objective.
